Visit the Great Outdoors at the Quaint Glen Oaks Big Sur

Glen Oaks Big Sur - Luxury Among the Redwoods.

Driving on Highway 1 to Big Sur is a must-do, for good reason. The spectacular views rounding each curvy bend are a treat and a thrill for both the driver and the passenger. Experiencing Big Sur should be on more bucket lists; because who wouldn’t want to spend a couple nights in this rarified atmosphere where the air is so breathtakingly pure?

Yet, luxury lodging options are rare in this magical spot. That was, until Glen Oak Big Sur— a newly renovated property — came along. The hotel just off the highway and nestled among the redwoods is a casual yet contemporary accommodation with a noteworthy restaurant. It offers a comfortable counterpoint to the craggy coast and endless hiking of the rugged terrain.

While still respecting the adobe architecture and much appreciated soundproofing of the original property, the interiors have all been redone. No tired, shabby cabins here — from queen guestrooms to private cottages — offer an upscale lodging option in the heart of Big Sur.

Prepare to rest your hiked-out, weary body on comfy beds with luxurious bed and bath linens including cocoon-like robes. Enjoy the contemporary rustic-chic design, different in each room, and always aesthetically pleasing. The guestrooms are also thoughtfully planned to anticipate your every need, including heated bathroom floors!

Across the highway and adjacent to Glen Oak Big Sur is their restaurant, Big Sur Roadhouse, whose Californian ingredients are prepared with New Orleans flare by Chef Matt Glazer, formerly of Esalen and the Big Sur Bakery. On its menu, the restaurant offers a gluten free seafood gumbo prepared with slow cooked veggies instead of a flour roux for a soulful, healthier version of the classic. Freshly caught fish direct from nearby Monterey Bay is treated to the best of the blackened tradition without overwhelming the delicate flavors of the sea.

Nature-lovers and those who love to stay active outdoors will enjoy all that this quaint lodging has to offer. Since most of the remodel uses recycle and renewable materials, it’s also an accommodation you can feel good about.
