It is clear that our thirst for travel seems unquenchable. However, when we first venture out post COVID – 19 isolation, there are some predictable first steps we’ll be taking. Here are six to consider:

  1. Think locally. You will most likely want to go somewhere nearby. Depending on where you live and your personal preferences, that could be anywhere from an art gallery to a zoo, from the mountains to the sea, and it will also be somewhere you can get to by car or local transportation.
  2. Regardless of the appropriate attire for the spot you select, you’ll be wearing a mask for your own safety and that of others, while keeping your social distance.Once there is a sufficient stockpile of certified protective gear stockpiled, manufacturers and fashion houses will be designing and churning out the perfect mask for every occasion.  From bikinis to ball gowns, there will be accompanying stylish masks to accessorize your outfit. No fashionista could have predicted this trend. What a boost for the flailing houses of Dior, Gucci and the like.
  3. If you are longing to take a cruise, it will likely be on a small ship sailing a nearby river.Domestic cruise lines are already seeing a spike in bookings from the Colombia and Snake Rivers to the Mighty Mississippi. Travel on the Great Lakes will also be a popular option. Why, because the guest capacity is dramatically reduced by virtue of the ship size and social distancing logistics are much easier to design and manage.
  4. Think of the great outdoors where wide open spaces and an abundance of fresh air are the luxury commodities du jour that we are all dreaming about. We might be able to spend quality time unmasked and unfettered by the constant worry of possible contagious others in the vicinity. Never has the notion of glamping been more appealing.
  5. There are also remote, isolated lodges and all-inclusive enclaves where seclusion is at a luxurious premium. These have always been sought out by the rich and famous who will pay anything for privacy. Now, all the Boomers and Millennials who have foregone vacations will be on the hunt for these exclusive digs. Pricey yes, and no doubt, they are about to get even pricier based on the pent-up demand.
  6. When boarding a plane is deemed sufficiently safe, there are less populated spots in every state and country, as well as Islands, and safari destinations to mention just a few locations, that will appeal to our wanderlust and our need for safe harbouring.
